Blob is optimized for storing big amount of unstructured data. Unstructured data doesn't adhere to a particular data model or definition such as binary data. Example : Audio/Video files and images. Block Blob: Block blobs are optimized for uploading large amounts of data efficiently. Block blobs are comprised of blocks, each of which is identified by a block ID Append Blob: An append blob is comprised of blocks and is optimized for append operations. When you modify an append blob, blocks are added to the end of the blob only, via the Append Block operation Page Blob: Page blobs are a collection of 512-byte pages optimized for random read and write operations.A write to a page blob can overwrite just one page, some pages, or up to 4 MiB of the page blob What is Storage Account? Create azure blob storage Account DEMO Azure Blob storage is Microsoft's object storage solution for the cloud. Blob storage is optimized for storing massive amounts of unstructured data. Unstructured data is data that doesn't adhere to a particular data model or definition, such as text or binary data. An Azure storage account contains all of your Azure Storage data objects: blobs, files, queues, tables, and disks. The storage account provides a unique namespace for your Azure Storage data that is accessible from anywhere in the world over HTTP or HTTPS. Data in your Azure storage account is durable and highly available, secure, and massively scalable. Blob storage is designed for: Serving images or documents directly to a browser. Storing files for distributed access. Streaming video and audio. Writing to log files. Storing data for backup and restore, disaster recovery, and archiving. Storing data for analysis by an on-premises or Azure-hosted service. Azure Storage supports three types of blobs: Block blobs store text and binary data. For Complete Azure Online Training please visit: 🤍 Blobs are binary large objects. The Blob service stores text and binary data. Blob storage is also referred to as object storage. You can use Blob storage to store content such as: - Documents - Social data such as photos, videos, music, and blogs - Backups of files, computers, databases, and devices - Images and text for web applications - Configuration data for cloud applications - Big data, such as logs and other large datasets Blobs are addressable using the following URL format: HTTP(s)://storage account name.blob.core.windows.net/container/blob name Types of blobs: 1. Block blobs are optimized for streaming and for uploads and downloads and are a good choice for storing documents, media files, backups, etc. Azure divides data into smaller blocks of up to 4 megabytes in size, which subsequently upload or download in parallel. Individual block blobs can be up to 200 GB in size. 2. Append blobs: Append blobs are like block blobs but are optimized for append operations. This works best with logging and auditing activities. Updating or deleting of existing blocks is not supported. 3. Page blobs are optimized for random read/ write operations and provide the ability to write to a range of bytes in a blob. Blobs are accessed as pages, each of which is up to 512 bytes in size. Each Page blob can be up to 8TB each. It is best suited for virtual machine disks. _ This video was compiled by Mr. Sandeep Soni, a Microsoft Certified Trainer and an Azure Solution Architect. Azure Blob Storage is a cloud-based object storage service provided by Microsoft Azure. It is designed to store and manage large amounts of unstructured data, such as text files, images, videos, backups, and logs. Azure Blob Storage allows you to store and access data from anywhere in the world over the internet. It offers highly scalable and durable storage, ensuring that your data is available and protected. Blob Storage is built to handle massive amounts of data and provides high throughput and low latency for data access. Key features of Azure Blob Storage include: Scalability: Blob Storage can handle datasets of virtually unlimited size. It automatically scales to accommodate your storage needs, so you don't have to worry about provisioning additional infrastructure. Durability and Availability: Azure Blob Storage replicates your data to provide high durability and availability. By default, it replicates data within a specific region, and you can also choose to replicate data across multiple regions for additional resilience. Security: Blob Storage offers various security features to protect your data, including encryption at rest and in transit. You can manage access to your blobs using shared access signatures (SAS) or Azure Active Directory (Azure AD) authentication. Tiering: Blob Storage provides different storage tiers to optimize cost and performance based on your data access patterns. The available tiers are Hot, Cool, and Archive, each offering different pricing and access characteristics. Blob Types: Azure Blob Storage supports three types of blobs: block blobs, page blobs, and append blobs. Block blobs are optimized for storing large files, page blobs are used for random access I/O, and append blobs are designed for scenarios where you need to append data sequentially. Integration: Blob Storage integrates well with other Azure services and tools, such as Azure Functions, Azure Data Lake Storage, Azure Data Factory, Azure Databricks, and more. It also provides APIs and SDKs for easy integration into your applications. Azure Blob Storage is commonly used for a wide range of scenarios, including backup and restore, content storage and delivery, data archiving, data lakes, and media streaming. It provides a cost-effective and flexible solution for storing and managing your unstructured data in the cloud. Introduction to Azure Blob Storage Types of Azure Blob Storage Azure Blob Pricing Azure Blob Use cases Introduction to Azure Blob Storage Azure Blob Storage is object storage solution for the cloud. Blob Storage is optimized for storing massive amounts of unstructured data. Unstructured data is data that does not stick to a specific data model or definition, like text or binary data. Blob storage objects can be accessed by the user or client application via HTTP/HTTPS from any part of the world. Types of Azure Blob Storage Block Blobs : Block blobs are designed to store text and binary data. Append Blobs : Append Blobs are created with blocks like block blobs but are enhanced for append operations. It has a storage capacity of about 4.75 TiB of data. Append blobs are preferred for scenarios like logging data from virtual machines. Types of Azure Blob Storage Page Blobs : Page Blobs store random access files ranging up to 8 TB in size. Page blobs store virtual hard drive (VHD) files and serve as disks for Azure virtual machines. Page blobs are a collection of 512-byte pages, which provide the ability to read/write arbitrary ranges of bytes Page blobs are ideal for storing index-based and sparse data structures like OS and data disks for Virtual Machines and Databases. Azure Blob Use Cases Blob Storage is designed for : Serving images or documents directly to a browser. Storing files for distributed access. Streaming video and audio. Writing to log files. Storing data for analysis by an on-premises or Azure-hosted service. Storing data for backup and restore, disaster recovery, and archiving. Azure Blob Pricing Azure storage offers various access tiers, which allows storing the blob object data in a very cost-effective manner. The storage access cost for the hot access tier is comparatively higher than the storage costs of cool and archive tiers. But access cost of hot access tiers is low Hot Access Tiers : Data that is in active use or predicted to be accessed often, in detail, the data that is read from and written to often. Data that is staged for processing and in eventual migration to the cool access tier come under hot access tiers. Azure Blob Pricing Optimized for storing less frequently accessed data, and the storage period lasts for at least 30 days. Cool Access Tier : Older media content that is not viewed regularly anymore but is expected to be easily available when accessed In comparison to hot access tiers, the cool access tier has lower storage costs and higher access costs. Azure Blob Pricing Data must sustain in the archive tier for at least 180 days or will be subjected to an early deletion charge. Archive Access Tiers : Long-term backup, secondary backup, and archival datasets. The storage cost of archive access is low, but the data retrieval cost is high when compared to the hot and cool tiers.

Azure Blob leases are used to acquire and release locks over blobs in storage account. This helps preventing data inconsistency while modifying the blob by multiple clients. Azure blob leases make sure that at a time only one client will be allowed to do the modification to the blob.
