Hello guys and welcome to my new tutorial series on how to make your own multi-biome open world map in Unreal Engine 4. I will show you guys how to create the proper heightmaps in world machine, setup the landscape material using Quixel Megascans, and import the heightmaps into the engine. My open world island is surrounded by the ocean. The problem with an open world water is that the world is too big and the borders are not straight. Using the Unreal Engine blocking volumes are not an option. I did not want to kill my adventure player when stepping into the water so I had to prevent him from going in. In this video I show you how I prevent the player to step into the water by doing a line-trace on movement and a pushback. The system is not perfect but it keeps the player from stepping into the water and gives my level some natural boundaries.
