Should you shoot S-LOG 2 or S-LOG 3 on your Sony Camera? In this video, I shoot in both SLOG-2 and S-LOG3 on the Sony A7III to see which will look better! I quickly graded both of these in Colour Finale Pro 2 (Final Cut Pro X) and compared the results! Disclaimer, I am definitely not a professional colourist and this was very much a learning exercise for me. I have never properly shot SLOG3 before, so I wanted to test it out and see just how difficult it would be to work with. Hi guys, I decided to a Slog2 vs Slog3 vs HLG3 Extremely High Dynamic Range test to see which one of these sony picture profiles do better in terms of dynamic range and noise performance in such a extreme condition (You will barely face this extreme situation when shooting outside). I used my Sony A7III for this test and as far as I know this should be applicable to most sony alpha cameras because the gamma curve of Slog2, Slog3 and HLG3 picture profiles are the same in sony cameras. I did a quick test using S-log 2 and S-log 3 footage on my Sony A7IV. All the camera setting are the same, the only differences are the picture profile. I've tried it all: "How to expose for slog2", "sony slog2 settings", "slog2 color grading". And nothing ever made it work. UNTIL NOW! I finally figured out how to fix my sony slog2 settings so that I can get good looking images without so much hassle. The issue comes down to the files you get from the sony cameras, 8 bit 4:2:0 at 100mbps does not leave a lot of room to push around colors. So every time I would try to grade sony slog2 footage, it would just fall apart with blotchy gross areas. In this video we are taking a look at the HLG3 and S-Log2 Picture Profile with the Sony ZV-E10 to see what works better for an indoor studio or YouTube setup. As you might know, the ZV-E10 is an 8-bit camera that features all of Sony's picture profiles such as S-Log3, Cine4, etc. While S-Log3 can fall apart quite quickly on an 8-bit camera like the ZV-E10, S-Log2 can actually be a viable option. I recorded this video to figure out if I should switch from HLG3 to S-Log2 for my indoor studio/talking head style of videos. What do you think? И так в кратце: 1) выставить экспозицию на метре +2.0 (либо на пол остановки больше) 2) Тк при съемке в Slog2 (слог) в светлых участках идет потеря данных при значениях выше 107, установить зебру по светлым участкам ниже 107 (что и логично). Это может звучит наивно и очевидно, но очень многие жалуются на шум в видео, когда снимают в вечернее время или темноте. Проблема в том, что минимальное значение iso при съемке на слог 2 - iso 800, что зачастую маловато при съемке в недостаточной освещенности чтобы держать метр в значении +2, особенно когда быстрого объектива или вы вообще снимаете 50fps или другое slow motion. Just some thoughts on the pros and cons of S-Log2 vs S-Log3 with the Sony FS7 camera. In our humble opinion, which gamma curve you use does have implications for how your footage will turn out, especially if it is a brighter scene. We always encourage people to try things for themselves. That's the most powerful way to really know something for sure and we encourage you to do that in this case. In our experience, S-Log2 works better in unpredictable lighting situations and is a good overall choice. We have recommended S-Log3 in the past, but mostly for lower light situations where there is less concern for blowing out highlights and you have more control over the lighting. This isn't the best analogy but we see the difference between S-Log2 and S-Log3 as the difference between two of the same cars with the same engine, but different transmissions. They have the same potential and range, but how they handle hills differs significantly. And so while they are the same, they aren't and there are instances when you might want one over the other depending on the terrain. Here's an interesting thread where the OP asks: Why does S-Log3 clip at 94 in the first place? The consensus is that S-Log does clip and that S-Log2 is generally better than S-Log3. Just a simple test between Cine4 vs SLOG2 vs SLOG3 on the Sony a7iii during an overcast day in downtown Denver. Second clips are for skin tones, Still the same Sony skin tones. Honestly, I do not really see a huge difference between them all in the grade. But that is also because they were shot at their lowest ISO, so you should expect them to be similar. For me SLOG3 takes a bit more time to get the image to where I like it. I have also found that on a blue sky, SLOG3 will produce bad banding in the sky. (This will be shown in a later video). I have shot with this camera pretty much everyday and I have found that I do like SLOG2 the best. I have yet to test SLOG2 in a low light situations though. I will have to make another video. Disclaimer: The ISO settings were purposely NOT left the same because ISO 1600 or 3200 is an inherent requirement for S-log on the Sony A7SII. Being able to use all ISO settings is an advantage for Cine4 and therefore was included in some parts of this comparison. We switched shooting our slow motion b-roll from 120 FPS to 60 FPS on our Sony A7S2 because of color noise. We shoot all of our footage in S-log2, but I thought I would test out the cine4 picture profile to see if we could get a better shot. These are the results! Only shoot S-Log2 if you're outside where there are extreme differences in highlights vs shadows - like the sky.
