Why is Premiere' PLAYBACK PERFORMANCE slow as fudge all of the sudden? Because it implemented a cool new feature that can actually be horrible on the wrong system (most systems?!?). Maybe they forgot to test with non-workstation GPUs or on low quality motherboards? If I knew for a fact that a non-cheap motherboard upgrade will make this work as intended - I think definitely yes. When you hit play in your timeline to review your video, it can sometimes look a bit "laggy" or "choppy". This could be because you haven't rendered your timeline yet, so how do you do that? Above your timeline, you can see a line that indicates what part of the timeline is rendered. This line is most likely yellow or red for you and we want to make it green. The way you do this is by placing the playhead where you want the rendering to start, click "I" to set an In-point and then place the playhead where you want the rendering to end and click "O" to set an Out-point. After that, you click "ctrl + R" to render the selected area, and then that part will turn green and you can replay it, hopefully without any lag. 🤍 Here is a quick video on how to fix a common problem happening in Premier Pro. Clips with variable frame rate have been causing audio to be out of sync with their respective clips in addition to clips skipping and lagging during editing and after rendering or exporting.
I've recently started make more 4K videos. The higher the resolution and more complicated the project, the higher chance of getting lags during playback. Therefore, until now I could play the playback at full resolution without any significant lag. In order to minimize lag and to make the preview video to run smoothly, you got to reduce the playback resolution from full to 1/2, 1/4, 1/8, or 1/16. The lower the playback resolution, the more smoothly you could play the preview. But if you want to play the video in full resolution and check the high quality playback, then you got to render the whole sequence or a portion of the timeline. If you close the project and open it again, then the render will be lost and you'll have to render it again! Usually fixing the red areas of the timeline is enough for getting a smooth playback! Render "Effects In to Out" takes much shorter time to render but it might not completely get rid of lagging. Selecting "Render In to Out" will take longer time to render but it'll completely get rid of lagging. By upgrading your graphics card and making some other changes to your systems settings, you could further minimize lagging!
