Germany is set to deliver the first of four high-tech air defense systems within "days." CCTV footage shows a Ukrainian air defence system intercepting Russian combat drones fired over Kyiv on Monday. Volodymyr Zelensky said he had received intelligence reports suggesting Moscow would launch prolonged attacks using Iranian-made Shahed drones. Ukraine's President said Putin was aiming at the exhaustion of the Ukrainian people, air defence and energy sector. He revealed Ukraine had already shot down more than 80 Russian drones by the 2nd of January and expects this number to increase. The Ukrainian Air Force has shot down a Russian missile using a German Cheetah anti-aircraft system. The footage shows the German-made war machine taking out the missile by shooting it while it was in flight, causing a large explosion. The incident took place amid a fresh wave of missile attacks from Russia targeting Ukraine. In the video, a Ukrainian soldier can be heard shouting "Yes! Contact!" as the Russian missile turns into a fireball and comes crashing down to earth. Another Ukrainian soldier then appears to open fire with his assault rifle as the footage ends, although it is unclear if he was shooting at a second incoming missile. The images were obtained from the Air Force Command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine on Monday, 5th December, along with a statement saying: "Equipment provided by partners protects Ukrainian skies from the cruise missiles of the rashist terrorists. Russian air defence breaks the record of S-400 The initial months of the Russia Ukraine conflict, it has been reported that the S-400 system has got its first kill & also set a world record for the longest range kill ever for an aircraft. It’s being reported that a Ukrainian SU-27 had been shot down from a range of over 150 km or more. The Reports of the S-400 downing a Su-27 came as the Ukrainian Air Force reportedly lost four more Su-27s on 5th of March in a major air battle in the western regions of Ukraine. The ability of S400 to neutralize Ukrainian aircraft from such an extreme range sends an important message to Pakistan and China, on how the balance of power in the air is shifting towards Indian Air force. S-400 delivery to India S-400 is the best SAM defence system at present. Back in 2018, India had signed a contract worth Rs 35,000 crores to purchase five squadrons of S-400. The delivery of 1st squadron of S400 commenced last year in November and is now operational. The delivery of second squadron commenced in February 2022 and is also expected to be complete as Russia will start the deliveries of 3rd squadron from next month. All the 5 regiments are planned to be delivered by 2023. S-400 Deployment The 1st squadron of S400 was deployed in Punjab covering western and norther frontier. The 2nd squadron of S400 is deployed in east near the Siliguri Corridor, also known as the Chicken's Neck. It is a stretch of 20–22 kilometres land at the narrowest section. This area is very important for India geo-politically and geo-economically as it connects the seven states of northeast India to the rest of India. The 3rd squadron of S-400 will be deployed in Rajasthan. S-400 components The S-400 provides anti-access/area denial (A2/AD) capability against wide variety of aerial targets such as aircrafts, unmanned aerial vehicles, cruise missiles, ballistic missiles and Airborne Early Warning (AWACs) platforms. The S-400 SAM has a detection range of 600km. It can engage 60 targets simultaneously. The System response time is 9–10 seconds. It comes with four different types of missiles which are: short-range 9M96E (40km), medium range 9M96E2 (120km), long-range 48N6 (250km), and the very long-range 40N6E (400km). S-500 Prometey The S-500 Prometey (Russian: C-500 Прометей, lit. 'Prometheus'), also known as 55R6M "Triumfator-M", is a Russian surface-to-air missile/anti-ballistic missile system intended to replace the A-135 missile system currently in use, and supplement the S-400. The S-500 is under development by the Almaz-Antey Air Defence Concern. Initially planned to be in production by 2014, it is currently targeting 2021 for first delivery. With its characteristics, according to Pravda Report, it is unrivaled by any other similar system in the world, being the first in a new class of space-defense weapons. Also according to Pravda Report, it shares with the US Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) system the trait that it will be integrated into a single network of aerospace defense assets. S-400 Triumf The S-400 Triumf (Russian: C-400 Триумф, Triumf, Translation: Triumph; NATO reporting name: SA-21 Growler), previously known as the S-300PMU-3,is an anti-aircraft weapon system developed in the 1990s by Russia's Almaz Central Design Bureau as an upgrade of the S-300 family. It has been in service with the Russian Armed Forces since 2007. China was the first foreign buyer to make a government-to-government deal with Russia in 2014, while Saudi Arabia, Turkey, India and Belarus have all acquired, or expressed interest, in the system since. In 2017, the S-400 was described by The Economist as "one of the best air-defence systems currently made", and Siemon Wezeman of Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI) said it "is among the most advanced air defense systems available. S-300VM "Antey-2500" The S-300VM "Antey-2500" (NATO reporting name SA-23 Gladiator\Giant) is a Russian anti-ballistic missile system. The system is designed to defeat short- and medium-range ballistic missile, aeroballistic, cruise missiles, fixed-wing aircraft, as well as loitering ECM platforms and precision-guided munitions. S-300 The S-300 (NATO reporting name SA-10 Grumble) is a series of initially Soviet and later Russian long range surface-to-air missile systems produced by NPO Almaz, based on the initial S-300P version. The S-300 system was developed to defend against aircraft and cruise missiles for the Soviet Air Defence Forces. Subsequent variations were developed to intercept ballistic missiles. The S-300 system was first deployed by the Soviet Union in 1979, designed for the air defence of large industrial and administrative facilities, military bases and control of airspace against enemy strike aircraft. The system is fully automated, though manual observation and operation are also possible. Components may be near the central command post, or as distant as 40 km. Each radar provides target designation for the central command post. The command post compares the data received from the targeting radars up to 80 km apart, filtering false targets, a difficult task at such great distances.[citation needed] The central command post features both active and passive target detection modes. The project-managing developer of the S-300 is Almaz-Antey. S-300 uses missiles developed by both MKB "Fakel" and NPO Novator design bureaus (separate government corporations, previously named "OKB-2" and "OKB-8"). The S-300 is regarded as one of the most potent anti-aircraft missile systems currently fielded. It is mainly used in Asia and Eastern Europe, including three NATO member countries: Bulgaria, Greece and Slovakia. A cellphone video shows a Russian air defense fail caused by a Russian Pantsir-S2 malfunction causing it to hit a friendly position close by. In the footage you can see the Pantsir-S2 firing some missiles before one misfires. The cause for the fail is not known but it could be a potential fault in the software responsible for the automatic targeting. The Pantsir-S2 is known for its ability to operate in a fully-automatic mode since it recived an upgrade in 2020. Korea scrambles fighter jets after eight Chinese, Russian warplanes enter air defense identification zone 합참 "중•러 군용기 8대, KADIZ 진입" 軍, F-15K 등 출격 A total of eight warplanes from China and Russia briefly entered South Korea's air defense identification zone earlier today. Chinese planes are known to do so with some frequency, and Russian planes less so. But this time, they did so without notice. For more, we have our defense correspondent Bae Eun-ji on the line for us. Eun-ji, give us the details. Devin, Seoul's Joint Chiefs of Staff announced just a few hours ago that two Chinese and six Russian warplanes entered South Korea's air defense zone, or KADIZ but did not violate the country's air space. At 5:48 AM, two H-6 bombers from China, entered the area 126 kilometers northwest of Ieodo a submerged rock located south of Jeju Island. It stayed within the KADIZ area for about 25 minutes before moving away. About an hour later at 6:44 AM, they entered the zone again, this time from the northeast of South Korea's southeastern coastal city of Pohang before flying away about 20 minutes later. A few hours after that, at 12:18 PM, eight warplanes violated the zone. This included two Chinese bombers and six Russian warplanes, including four TU-95 bombers and two SU-35 fighter jets. They entered 200 kilometers northeast of Ulleungdo, and flew toward Dokdo Island before eventually making their way out of the KADIZ zone about 20 minutes later. Eunji, I understand there was a response by South Korea's military. Right an official from the JCS explained that South Korea deployed multiple fighter jets including its F-15Ks in response, but did not elaborate on the exact number of aircraft. South Korea's military said the country's fighter jets were ready even before the Chinese and Russian warplanes entered South Korea's air defense zone in case of an emergency. The JCS official added that China and Russia appear to have been holding their combined aerial exercise. China reportedly told South Korea through their military hotline that it was just an "ordinary drill." The two countries last held air drills about six months ago, in May and both Russian and Chinese warplanes entered South Korea's air defense zone on that occasion as well. The Pantsyr-S1 NATO designation SA-22 Greyhound short range air defense system is designed to protect strategic military and civil point targets. It was designed to meet the requirements of the Russian Air Defense Forces (PVO). This system is capable of engaging a wide variety of aerial targets, such as aircraft, helicopters, ballistic and cruise missiles, guided bombs. Developers claim that it is also capable of engaging stealthy aircraft, such as the F-22 and F-35. It was first publicly revealed in 1995 and entered service in 2007-2008. The first 10 Pantsyr-S1 air defense systems were delivered to the Russian Air Force in 2010. It is claimed that by 2014 more than 200 of these air defense systems were produced. It has also been exported to Algeria, Syria and United Arab Emirates (50 units). This air defense system was recently ordered by Iraq. The Pantsyr-S1 saw action during the military conflict in Ukraine. The Pantsyr-S1 is a further development of the 2S6 Tunguska air defense gun/missile system, based on a tracked chassis. It carries up to 12 surface-to-air missiles in sealed containers. These missiles are ready-to-launch and have a radio-command guidance. It is worth mentioning, that missiles are not fitted with seekers. Instead missile tracking is provided via the combat vehicle's sensor system. The 57E6 missile of the Pantsyr has a two-stage solid-fuel rocket motors. It has a maximum speed of 1 000 m/s (Mach 3). Missiles of this air defense system have a maximum range of 20 km. This footage shows Ukrainian air defence systems shooting down incoming Russian cruise missiles aimed at critical civilian infrastructure. The air defence systems can be seen firing intercept missiles at the Russian cruise missiles, which can be seen exploding as they are hit in mid-air. The images were obtained from Air Force Command of the Ukrainian Armed Forces on Monday, 12th September, along with a statement saying: "As we reported on 11th September, around 8:30 p.m., the occupiers launched missile attacks on the territory of Ukraine. The targets of the missiles were precisely the critical infrastructure of our state. "Twelve launches of sea-based and air-based cruise missiles - Kalibr and Kh-101 were carried out. Nine out of 12 missiles of the occupiers were destroyed by anti-aircraft missile units of the 'East' and 'Centre' Air Commands of the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
